It was almost 11 years ago when the media first mentioned the presence of asbestos fibers at Illinois Beach State Park, which runs along a six-mile stretch of Lake Michigan. But is the beach safe today? The term "asbestos" has been given to six naturally occurring mineral fibers that have been used for commercial purposes. Today, use of asbestos in the United States is regulated but, contrary to common belief, it has never been banned.
